Geri Smith is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in the Las Vegas Valley. She has been providing therapy and counseling services since 1994 to children, adults, couples and families throughout southern Nevada. Geri’s work consists of helping her clients understand and access their strengths to overcome emotional barriers that may be hindering them from living their “best” life. She finds it rewarding to see her clients transform and make the changes necessary to have a more balanced and satisfying life. Geri received a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Lewis University in Lockport, Illinois and her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology-California Graduate Institute in Westwood, California.
She has participated and spoken at numerous events throughout the Las Vegas area:
-Certified in the Diocese of Las Vegas to train volunteers and staff members in the Virtus Program, Protecting God’s Children, Touch Safety and Rainbows for all God’s Children.
-Co- author and developer of in-school anti-bullying program, “Bullying: Don’t Let It Get To You”, presented throughout Nevada schools to over 100,000 students.
-Developed the parent/child anti-bullying presentation, “Families Against Bullying” which offers children, as well as parents and guardians, special insight on the epidemic of bullying. “ Families Against Bullying” is designed to improve communication skills among parents and children which is a key element in overcoming bullying, while enhancing self-esteem and confidence, all toward building improved understanding and strategies for dealing with the bullying epidemic in our society.
-Group therapy facilitator with groups specializing in addiction, stress and adolescent issues in various numerous events throughout the Las Vegas area.
-Former member of the St. Thomas More Parish Council, the St. Viator School Board, and past president of the St. Viator School Parent Teacher Organization. Chairperson of the St. Viator Foundation annual fundraising Gala. Member of the Viatorian Independent Review Board. Geri is also active in the Clark County School District where she served as a member of the Blended learning Task Force. She is currently serving on the Las Vegas Academy Advisory Board and is a co-founder of the Las Vegas Academy “Experience The Arts ” annual fundraising Gala.
-Geri is a member of The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. She has performed volunteer work with such agencies as Hopelink of Southern Nevada, House of the Good Shepard, a Chicago-area home for abused and battered women with children, as well as with the Regina Hall and Marian Residence in Henderson, Nevada. She is an active advocate for programs benefiting homeless families and teens in the greater Las Vegas area.
